As divers, we are constantly reminded of the beauty and fragility of the underwater world. It is our responsibility to do what we can to protect the sea, corals, and marine life for future generations. That's why at Story Divers, we are committed to sustainability and doing our part to reduce our impact on the environment while enjoying our favorite activity - scuba diving.
But your diving adventure starts from home, long before you even step foot on a plane. You can take a few simple steps to ensure you are doing your part to protect the environment on land and in the sea.First and foremost, we recommend bringing a refillable water bottle with you on your dive trip. Not only will this help to reduce the amount of single-use plastic water bottles that end up in landfills, but you can also use it to stay hydrated while diving. In addition, we have a freshwater dispenser available at our dive center and on our boat, so you can refill your bottle as needed.
Another easy way to reduce your impact is to pack a cotton bag in your luggage. This will come in handy if you want to go shopping and can help you avoid using single-use plastic bags.
Regarding sunscreen, choose a product free of Oxybenzone and Octinoxate, as these chemicals can harm coral reefs. Additionally, try to avoid sunscreens with "nanoparticles," as they can affect the reproductive cycle of corals and damage their DNA. Instead, opt for a mineral-based sunscreen, which is more environmentally friendly.
At Story Divers, we are dedicated to being a part of the solution, not the problem. We have a clean and modern dive center with sorted bins to dispose of waste properly, and we do not use any single-use plastic. We also have an online check-in system that saves at least seven paper files per diver, reducing our paper usage.
Our boat, Story I, is also equipped with eco-friendly products, such as hand soap, a dishwasher, mask defog liquid, reusable cups, and plates made from 100% recycled plastic. We even have a rubbish telescopic net on board to collect any floating plastic in the sea.
In addition to these efforts, we are actively involved in the local community, participating in cleanups and training with our team to create awareness about sustainable behavior. Working together can make a positive impact and do better for ourselves, the sea, and future generations.
